Concerns Of Having A Baby After 40

Are the risks alot higher for problems with the baby? Birth defects? I have had 6 endoscopys for endometriosis, had my right ovary removed and part of my left. And 5 months after my last endoscopy to get things 'cleaned up' from painful adhesions, I got pregnant with our first baby, at age 37. (I really think the surgery helped 'open the way'.) He is 2 1/2 now and we have been trying to have another for a year now. But now that I have hit 40, Im concerned. Any 40 year old women out there that are pregnant or are trying??

My mother-in-law had her third child when she was 45. Had a wonderful pregnancy. Just relax, let it happen. Don't worry. Your doctor will tell you what to be concerned about, if anything. Good luck.

I am about to be 39 and I am trying. Make sure you talk with your dr. Chances are things will be fine.

I know that women over 35 are prone to having twins, most likely identical. My friend who just had twins is 36 and her doctor said that fraternal twins were hereditary and identical twins(which she had) are kind of a "freak of nature" and are more apt to happen to women over 35.Other than that i think its your overall health that would be any risk.Good Luck!!

NIta - I'm 39 and trying for baby #1. This is heading into month #3 of trying. Risks are higher esp for downs and chromosomal abnormalities. After 6 months of trying they say to go see an RE or a fertility speciallisty if you are over 35 and havent gotten pg.
