I'm 17 and im around 14 wks either today or tomorrow. I'm hearing impaired w/ like.. 40% hearing in my right ear and under 17% in my left ear. I started losing my hearing on my 16th bday. The drs. dont know why, and it doesnt run in my family. The only ppl who've had hearing loss in my family were my old relatives and they lost their hearing cause they were old lol. Now, I'm worried that my baby will be born deaf, or it'll lose it when they get older...is that possible? The drs. say that it was a birth defect but i guess they just say that cause they dont know, and they dont wanta lose out on money lol.

Chances are that your baby will be okay. However, if your hearing loss is due to a genetic abnormality it is possible that it could be pa__sed on to your baby. A "birth defect" is what your doc told you, but do they mean then that you have a genetic abnormality that caused it or was a defect due to something else? Again chances are your baby will be fine, but if it is your genetics that are causing it then there is a chance that you could pa__s it on. Talk to your OB about it more in depth. Good luck and know that your child will be awesome and special no matter what.

The docs just said it was a birth defect. I know that it will be a special baby no matter what =D but if it doesnt lose hearing til its older, gaw thats hard on a teenager, to go from one world to another... I wouldnt wish that upon anyone especially my child, i know how costly and sucky it is. It'd kill me to see my child losing their hearing over time.
