Crib Mattresses

When buying cribs, can someone tell me what a "5 position" or "3 position mattress" is? I've seen this a lot. Can you reposition the mattress up or down, or what?

I think that means that you can lower and higher the mattress at different heights depending on how old your baby is. Just make sure that you buy a firm matterss, not a soft one.

You put the mattress in its highest position for a newborn, and lower it later so they can't fall out. I can't imagine needing 5 positions.
