I am short on space...is this an essential item, and why? I was thinking I could use a bassenet until she out grows it, then use a playpen?? Advice Needed~!

I my daughter slept in her ba__sinet until she was two months old, I think they can do up to 3 months. I would suggest at least purchasing a small crib, they are just slightly larger than pack n plays if you're short on space. I wouldn't suggest having the baby sleep in a playpen, comfort level is nil I'm sure.

Yes, a crib is an essential item!!! My kids slept in the ba__sinet until about 3 1/2 months, then I moved them to their crib. A playpen is just not going to cut it. I don't imagine they are very comfortable since it's basically a piece of wood covered in fabric that makes up the bottom of it, which is what your baby sleeps on. You can't pad it by adding soft blankets, as this could lead to SIDS. I would give up my own bed before I made my baby sleep in a playpen on a regular basis.

i am very short on space at the moment too and have a ba__sinet. If my space situation isn't fixed by the time she grows out of the ba__sinet then i'll look at a small crib. I saw some small cribs at toys r us yesterday. It looked like it would take me less space than a pack n play and it still had much more room than a ba__sinet.

A crib is not an essential item, if you co-sleep. My cousin has 2 boys under the age of 2, and no crib - the boys sleep in the "family bed" with mom and dad.

I am also short on space so my baby will sleep in her pack n play until I can move from my aunts house. It has the ba__sinet feature on it.

A crib is a wonderful item to have. My son spends some quality time staring at, and talking to his mobile, playing with his musical b___terfly, and having some quiet time. I co-slept but I do not recommend it if both parents sleep in a queen bed or anything smaller. It is not safe for two adults and a baby in anything less than a king bed. A playpen is not supportive enough. Your baby deserves a decent mattress as much as anybody:)

Have you ever felt a crib mattress? They are hard as rocks....

My son was in his ba__sinet until he was sleeping through the night which was about 2 months. Then he was in his crib until his 2nd birthday. I think it is an essential item. A pack an play or play pen is fine for naps but I think a crib is more comfortable in the long run.

It depends on the quality of the mattress that you buy. Our crib mattress is wonderful and is more supportive than the bottom of a playpen.

Specific sleeping arrangements are recommended to reduce risk of sids. Matresses are supposed to be firm in cribs. Play pens don't sound safe.

to those that want to have their baby in bed with them.. you can buy those additions that hook onto the side of your bed, so its like the baby is sleeping with you but in its own little space, so there is no chance of rolling over and squishing him or her! just a thought... however, I do favor a crib...

No you do not have to have a crib especially if your living arrangements or finances are tight, you would be surprised just how little a baby actually needs, my neighbor just had a baby 4 days ago and she only has the ba__sinet and small playpen, dont worry, your baby will turn out fine if it didn't have everything in the world, I wish you the best of luck~

Can you read? I said I have a pack n play with the BASSINET FEATURE ON IT.....If you don't understand what that means, it means that she wont be sleeping in the bottom of the play-pen, she will be up higher.....just about as high up as if she were in a crib....the mattress isn't much different than that of a regular ba__sinet. Don't put other people don't just because there doing the best they can.....E or whatever your name is you DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING!
