Dog And Baby Advice

Hi. I have a 9 year old chow mix. My husband and I are living out of the country now (2 years) but will return this fall. We would love to get our dog back from my in-laws, but we will also have a 2-3 month old baby then. Any advice how to warm the dog up to the idea of the baby even though we are so far away? I am concerned because the dog will have to adjust to a new baby and a new home. We love our dog madly and she is very sweet to us, but she can be aggressive with outsiders. Any insight you can give will be appreciated!

If you can, when your baby is born mail some baby clothes that has been around the baby to his parents before you come back so the dog can smell them and get the babies scent. That way she will learn that the baby should be there too and isn't an outsider. See if your DH parents will get a doll like the Baby Born or something that cries and see how she responds to it. Maybe even have the in laws dress the "baby" in the clothes you send so it won't be so foreign when you bring the actual baby home. Good luck.
