Drug Use Soon After Conception

A friend of mine is pregnant and i have some questions about drug use and the baby's health. She was a heavy crystal meth user for about a year and quit around the time of conception. She used extasy twice a few weeks after conception before she found out she was pregnant. Now she is clean, but I am wondering what the risks are of the preexisting usage. I know after a year of meth use the body takes many months to get clean -- is this a danger to the baby?

i was also worried about drug use during and after conception. i haven't got any advise to give as i am only 5 and a half months now but it does still concern me and i would love it if someone could put my mind at rest. i was also taking diet pills up until i was 5 weeks and worry if these caused any damage to my little baby! everything seems to be ok up until now but i plan to ask my gynie on my next visit and will let you know what he says. Good luck!!

I had back surgery in Jan and was taking strong painkillers and sleeping pills while I was pregnant..of course not knowing I was pregnant because we were not trying. My first question when I saw my doctor was if the baby would be affected by this. She told me that if you took anything in ther first 4 weeks that the baby would not be affected. Hope this is some help.....

does this also apply to heavy cigarette smoking in the first 4 weeks?

ok so i went back to the gynie but didn't have the courage to ask. it's a little embarrasing and besides i am so far into my pregancy now that there is little i can do to remedy the situation. i just pray to God that I didn't harm my baby and put everything into his hands. I will just have to deal with whatever cards he deals me!
