Feeling Very Guilty Please Help

I have had very, very, very bad anxiety the past couple of days and I have been totally off my lorazepam my entire pregnancy (I am 17 weeks). I was so miserable, that last night I took a 1mg pill. Do you think that is going to hurt my baby? Gosh I really hope not, but I just felt like I was going to die, heart racing and dizzy. Please Help.

Mrs Ireland-I think I've responded to your posts before. I am bipolar and currently I'm 24 wks along. I went to see my psych doc last week and I've been having the same anxiety problems as you have. I am a self help freak and have done a lot of research on lorazepam, even my doc was impressed with the knowledge i brought into the appt. Most of the risks for taking this medication are in the 1st trimester. The only risks taking it beyond that could be behaviorial risks, but they are inconclusive. My doc confirmed that it's a much higher risk NOT taking any medication, as you are putting a great deal of stress on yourself and the baby. Now, keeping that in mind, you should keep the dose to a minimum. I usually start out with .5 mg, but I have taken up to 1mg when it was a full fledge attack (dizzy, racing heart, problems breathing, hyperventilating, etc.). I wouldn't go more than a 1mg and I wouldn't take it more than once or twice a week. MY doc approved it for every other day, but I will only take it when I absolutely need it. Please don't feel guilty about it. As I said, there is no clear cut evidence that you put your baby in arms way. It's just important that it's taken at a low dose and not on a daily basis. I hope this helps. Believe me, I feel your pain!

No problem, I know it does stink. I hate being different and having to worry about these things. The biggest thing I hate is at night when I lay down and start worrying about stuff and then I can't breathe. I try to just put my head under the covers so dh doesn't hear me otherwise he stays up worrying about me. It's a horrible, horrible feeling to feel trapped and not be able to get out. I'm glad I could help. It was a huge concern of mine. I also asked my doc about regular medications out there to help with anxiety, but he said the cla__s that the lorazepam is in are the ones that work the best for anxiety. Anytime you want to talk, just post a thread with my name, I'm usually on here quite frequently. Good luck!
