Being pregnant does not benefit you in filing for taxes, but next year it will. :o)

im due in march and i was led to believe that i wasnt going to put my child down because technically she is not a dependent yet.. when i file my 06 taxes then i will put her down but not for 05.... this is what i was told but who knows!!!

hi - January 3

you can't claim an unborn baby as a dependent---sorry!!!

I was told baby needs to be at least 6 months born to claim him or her.

Yuo can claim the baby only in the year they are born, but there is no age limit. My neice was born Dec 29, and they claimed her the year of her birth.

actually, you can claim a baby as long as it was born within that tax year-it could be 11:59 on New years eve, and you can claim it ias a dependent. The six month idea is for someone who lives with you-other than a child or spouse, if they live with you as your dependent for half the year, then you can claim them.

Jenn is right, you can't claim an unborn child, they have to have a social security number to be able to claim them on your taxes.

Thanks for all your feedback. im glad I found out sooner. I was also asking around here at work right after I posted this thread and most of them told me that "i can't" claim that in my tax return. Again thanks!
