Not much - I ws majorly disappointed with my first visit as I didn't think things were being taken seriously enough! You'l get your green hospitl notes to fill in, which asks questions about medical history, family background and so forth. mine was at the surgery so yours, being at home, might be different. I was weighed and I think blood was taken - testing for blood group, rubella anitbodies (to make sure the shot you had as a teenager is still working). She also made an appointment for my 12 week scan, and that was about it really. She then said that she'd see me again at 15 weeks. I felt a little down as I thought i'd be given antenatal cla__s info and all sorts! Having said that, I did find out I was pregnant on the day of my missed period (I was so sure I did the test), and therefore was disappointed to wait 8 weeks to see a midwife, as I was mega excited too. Having said that, one bit of advice - don't do what I did, and go out and read everything you can, because I have marked and compared my pregnancy to everything I have read which is so not a good idea. I've ended up getting myself quite upset about stuff. It is much better to ask other preggo's or people who have had babies - but still bear in mind that everyone's pregnancy is different.

Thank you for getting back to me, well to be honest, i'm more wanting to get an appointment for my scan, i found out the day of my period too, and i'm 12 weeks now! So i know how you feel! I know it sounds bad, but my sister had a m/c about 4 months ago, the babies heart stopped beating, so i feel like i can't rest untill i hear that beautiful sound! I'm just so pleased things are finally moving now! It's like you have your first doctors appointment when you find out, then your just left for 7/8 weeks! I've got a brilliant pregnancy book, its week by week pregnancy, can't remember the author so I'll let you know tomorrow, but i found it to be so helpful, it doesn't tell you too much, but it's honest and doesn't hide anything! And the pictures are amazing! I keep looking at them and saying 'Thats what our baby looks like' i just want that confirmed now!!!! This is my first too, and i've just turned 20 (on sunday) so everythings all kind of new to me! I don't even have many people my age who have been pregnant around me to help me out with stuff! I think thats why i love this site so much! Thank you though for getting back to me, means a lot!

You should get the appointment faily quickly then, although I do know in some parts of the country you only get 1 scan at 18-20 weeks! i would not have been able to cope with that. I have been lucky enough to see my little 'bob' as we refer to him 3 times. Mainly because at 9 weeks I had a threatned miscarriage (very long story, which is on the pregnancy after miscarriage thread on second trimester part - so won't go into it here), and I had it to check everything was ok. I didn't get to hear baby's heart beat until 16 weeks, so don't be disappointed if you don't hear it at the scan, but you can certainly see it beating. I've read dr Mirriams pregnancy and birth book, and another one which is supposed to be a funny insight into pregnanc and is set out like a diary (can't remember the name). They are good, but I let myself get drawn into expecting a 'text book' pregnancy. I use the forum everyday usually round lunchtime, then early evening - so I am usually about if you need to ask anything. Good luck with it all!

Jodie86, your midwife does not normally organise your scans as the persone coming to your house will be the community midwife, probably the same persone that will do the 8 day visit after the birth. It usually the G.P refers you to the maternity then you should get your booking in appointment through the post.. Either way the midwife might sort it for you or contact your G.P to get him to do it. The midwife will probably take your blood pressure and maybe attempt to pick up baby's H.Beat but its kinda tricky before 15weeks.
