I found this website which I thought might be useful for those who like to use herbs when they cook and such. It's a good read just to check.. http://www.babycentre.co.uk/general/536346.html

Thanks for the info and I checked out the site, but is it just me or does it not seem to be herbs used for cooking? I mean, I use basil but not basil oil...and so I am not sure what these herbs would be used for short of taking them as teas or in oral pill form. Anyone know?

Well, that site might help someone. I planted an herb garden this last spring and I planted Pennyroyal. Well, I had tried all of the herbs but that one and I broke off a sprig and tried it. Tasted nasty and made my tongue tingle, so I decided to go online and see what on earth it is used for. Come to find out, it's pretty toxic. I called the local posion control center and they told me a teaspoon of the leaves can send you into a coma or kill you. It can also cause abortion, liver failure, ect! Fortunately, this was a month before I got pregnant, not after!!!!!! I didn't have any side effects but my dh made me drink about a gallon of fluid and the poison center called back in an hour to check on me. Scary. Trust me, I bought this plant at Walmart and there wasn't anything on the label to say it was toxic. I checked, cause I saved it!!!

Basil oil is derived from the leaves. Poinsettas don't have a warning on them either, and most people at least find out which herbs they are planting and what they are used for. Pennyroyal is a good insect repellant (ants, mosquitos, fleas and other biting things hate it) and good for bites, so they are good for a garden if you want to keep bugs away.
