Gestational Sac Size Question

My wife had slow rising HCG levels during the first 4-5 weeks of the pregnancy, and slow fetus development. However, over the last few weeks the uterus size has fully caught up and the heartbeat is at 144bpm at 7.5 weeks gestation. The doctor proclaimed everything fine. However, we went for an ultrasound today and while everything ELSE appeared perfectly normal, the technician was concerned that the gestational sac was too small. It hadn't really grown since last week, and the uterus compsrised nearly 80% of the sac size. Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone advise us - is there any reason for optimism or is this a bad sign?

Mike, two reasons to be optimistic: One is that not all embryos develop alike, plus all indications you mention do not suggest an ectopic preg. It's also often that docs miscalculate the age of the pregnancy or the growth rate. I can imagine the suspense but at this point all you can do is wait. Best of luck!
