Harmful Chemicals

Does anyone know of any stories regarding bleach inhalation to damage a fetus? I clean with bleach every couple of weeks or so, and the fumes are so strong, they can't be good for the baby right? Also, are air freshners, and carpet fresheners harmful to a fetus? Any stories regarding these questions?

I have the same question. I did some research and what I read was no, and actually using bleach helps to kill germs and bactria that can cause harm. I think that over exposure may cause damage. I also read that when using these it is best to have a window open or door so the fumes can spread away qucikly. I also found that actually leaving it on the surface for a couple of minutes (10 or so) helps to prevent inhaling too much fumes. I go to my doc today so I will ask him and respond later.

There is nothing showing bleach fumes harm the fetus, but if you want to play it safe, you can use products based on baking soda and/or vinegar. You can find these in health product stores, and some even work better than the conventional ones. If you opt for conventional cleaning products, it's better to have adequate vendilation. Also remember, whether pregnant or not to NEVER mix bleach and ammonia. Those fumes are toxic even to adults. Oh, and wear gloves

What a good question, I have been wondering about bleech myself as I use it all the time, but does anyone know what products have ammonia?

white vinegar does just as good a job as bleach and it's much safer. my husband is alergic to bleach so i've pretty much stopped using it. ammonia is common in pine sol and other multi purpose cleaners, it will say right on the product lable if it has ammoina or not.
