I'm in the same boat. My first reading was in the 100's. Then the next day (Fri) it was in the 200's. Today I went in for blood work and it only was in the 400's. The doctor said it should be higher - and is worried. I go back in Monday June 5th for blood work and U/S. I'm worried because I started spotting - brownish blood. I'm very emotional right now - I've been trying for over a year anda half.

My first beta was 25.2, second was three days later and was 146, third was 8 days later and was over 8,000. They told me some people start of a bit lower and end up ok. I wouldn't worry so much yet. Lucy, I'm not sure about slow rising levels. I hope it all works out for you.

Natasha: your first reading sounds great, judging by how far along you are. Note that your first hcg reading doesn't mean as much as your second and subsequent ones. It is supposed to double every 2-3 days. Lucy, not sure how many days lapsed from your 200 to 400 reading. If your levels are not rising/doubling properly, it could be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy. If they start to fall, it is my experience/understanding that it is basically over. I don't say that to upset or discourage you. I believe that knowledge is power and it's better to prepare for the worst but pray for the best. We tried for a year and had a chemical pregnancy...my hcg levels fell but were much lower than yours from the start. I can relate to let down after let down. I hope this works out for you!! Keep us posted.

Thanks Trish for your insight. My reading of 200 was on Friday and the reading of 400 was on Wed. I am prepared for the worst. On Monday they will check my levels again and do an ultrasound.

At 5 weeks pregnant hCG levels from 20 to 7,000 are in range. The level varies enormously from one pregnancy to another. See http://www.obfocus.com/questions/qanda7.htm (no hyphens)

That's great, Natasha!! What a relief! I was a nervous wreck the entire first trimester and kept over-a___lyzing things. Nature will run its course, whatever that course may be, and I'm so glad that you've had a happy outcome!! Lucy, hope the same holds true for you. It very well could!!!
