Hot Showers

I take very hot showers normally. I'm 31 weeks pregnant and have continued this practice throughout my pregnancy, unaware that it could be harmful to the baby. Could anyone please provide me with the details on what way it is harmful and what effects it could have? I'm very nervous now, after reading this--especially since there weren't any details! Thanks in advance

hmm I have heard alot about it being a no no for hot tubs, but throughout my whole pregnancy I never gave up my hot showers or baths (they are very soothing and relaxing, with all those pregnancy pains). My baby is perfectly fine, nothing wrong. As long as you are not like scortching your skin, you should be ok. plus you are just in the shower, not submerged in the water. And even if you take a bath, I dont know about you but with me my stomach was too big to go under the water, lol. I know its hard because there are so many different opinions on just about everything in pregnancy.

Your core body temperature is the important thing. If it doesn't rise during your shower, you should be ok. I know early in pregancy, a raised core temp can affect spinal and nervous system development. The problem with hot tubs and sauna is that people tend to stay in them longer, so it raises their core body temp. With a hot bath, the water temp decreases the longer you stay in, so there is less risk of raising your temp. Likewise, you need to be careful if you have a high fever.
