How Accurate Is A Blood Test

I was wondering if anyone knows how accurate a blood test is? I had a test done on the 14th, and it was positive, but I also have a friend who had two blood tests done, they were both negative, but when they did an u/s they found out she was pregnant. I would be around 5 weeks, but have no symptoms, except for being tired which could be from running after my other 2 children or stress. With my 1st pregnancy, I had most of the symptoms, and with my 2nd, I had all of them including morning sickness. I just want to make sure the test isn't giving false hope. Please help!!!!

False negatives are more common than false positives. Blood tests are more reliable than urine tests. You are probably too busy to have time for symptoms!

Thank you Viv! One more thing. When do you usually start feeling the abdomen hardening? It has been a while, and the little things I thought I would remember, I don't.

No, the test is not giving false hope, they are accurate. You are pregnant! congratulations!!!! Take it easy and don't get stressed out it is not healthy for the baby!

Stop worrying! I have never heard of a blood test being a false positive (unless you have recently miscarried). Typically they are only false negatives b/c your HCG level is not high enough to detect. Congrats & bask in the joy of your pregnancy, hun.
