I've read a little about being rh positive or rh negative, but my doctor hasn't told me which one I am. I am 20 wks and just found out today I am having a boy!!! :) Could anyone explain more about the rh factor and when I should find out what mine is?? Thanks!

If you know your blood type you should know your rh factor. If you are A+ the + is the rh factor, so your rh factor is positive. Negative rh factors are a lot rarer then positives.

Ok! That makes sense! thanks a bunch!

Don't you have to get an rh shot if you are positive and your spouse is negative? That is my case -- just one more thing to look forward to when the time comes I guess!! FF ~ Congrats on a baby boy!!! Do you have any names picked out?

Your doctor will automatically find out your blood type when they order basic blood lab work for you. It is not something you need to request. You may have to ask them what it is as they will not tell you otherwise, but eventually it will be in your medical charts.

I think you only need to get the shot if you have a positive rh and the baby has a negative. Or vice-versa.

If you have a negative rh, you will receive a shot of Rhogam at 28 weeks. If your baby is rh postive, you will receive another shot of Rhogam within 72 hours of delivery. You can always ask your doctor at your next appointment what yours is if you're curious. For more info, look up "rh factor" on google.com.
