Induced Labour

I am 33 weeks pregnant and my fiancee and I have been talking about a planned date and inducing labour. I've always kind of liked the idea of my baby picking her own birthday..but my fiancee is a rig worker and works out of town for 2 weeks then is home for 1 week. I really don't want to go into labour without him being there...especially since I live so far away from my family and friends, I would be completly alone. What do you all think of induced labour at a set date? (not a c-section though)

I certainly understand why you'd want to do it, but I would try to avoid it, at least until your body starts doing something on its own. It may not do anything before actual labor, but starting from 50%effaced and a couple of cms has got to be better than starting from scratch (which could also increase your chance of c-section). My induced labor (just broken water, no pitocin) sucked way more than my natural labor, even though it was way shorter. Just some things to think about...
