I have just been telling a (childless) friend of mine that we are trying to get pregnant and I am taking folic acid and multi vitamins and calcium etc. I came off the pill 2 months ago, and we have not used precautions since -but now she tells me it is dangerous for a baby if the pill is still in your system in any way when you conceive. Appatently her doctor told her you should ideally wait 6 months. Can anyone put me straight on this please? I really want o go ahead an keep trying, and I am ovulating on Monday! Help!

EJ, I am trying, too, and my doctor (who is very conservative) told me that I should ideally be off the pill for 2 months before trying to conceive. I think that every doctor is different because I have friends who were told 6 months. I don't think that it is dangerous as much as it is that it might take you longer to conceive and the doctor may be referring to this. I've been off since late September and we have been trying since January.

It's not dangerous. The reason they tell you to wait 6 months is that when you first come off the pill your periods can be irregular and it makes it harder to work out when you became pregnant. If you are unsure of your due date it can make it harder to time when to have important tests/scans etc. This info was given to me by my doc. Incidentally, my periods were regular when I came off the pill and I fell pregnant in 4 months.

I had taken bc pills before each of my two children and I got pregnant the following month of stopping the pills each time but I always had a regular cycle.
