My husband and I have waited for a long time to get pregnant so I could finish school. We are now almost 7 weeks preg. Last week, I had an incident where I had some slight spotting or discharge or something, just a little for maybe five minutes. Then today sometime, it happened again, I'm not sure when. It's not much, but has me worried because we waited so long and now I don't know what's happening. My doctor won't see me for a few more weeks, and I'm very concerned. Is this normal. I called today and they just said to take it easy. Any advise? Please help.

It is normal to have some form of bleeding during one's pregnancy - so long as it is not accompained by pain and heavy bleeding with clots. The spotting you are observing is probably due to the shifting of the placenta which may cause some of the lining of the uterus to sloth off. Some women have been known to have their periods while pregnant. Having said this you should always inform your doctor about any bleeding or pain so that they know how your pregnancy is progressing and can better gauge possible complications that may or may not arise. But like I said before, spotting in early pregnancy is no cause for real concern unless the blood increases in amounts and is accompained by sharp pains. I would advise to keep your appointment and talk with your doctor about any concerns that you may have. Good luck.

Thanks for your answer. I am going to try to relax and not stress it for the next two weeks.

I would say to go to the ER and have blood work done. If you have good insurance, it should not cost you much. Otherwise, call your doctor and tell him/her that you want to have blood work done and go to a local lab. Have your HCG levels checked and see if your in the appropriate level for your gestation. Also, you can go 2 days after the first day and have blood drawn again, if your levels are rising you should be fine. Also, if you go to the ER, you can have a pelvic exam done to rule out infection, which can cause bleeding. Otherwise, just hang in there. Some women do bleed and/or spot when they are pregnant and sometimes there is not explaination. Good Luck!

I had the same thing happen to me when I was pregnant with my first son. I also called the doctor who told me not to worry. I couldn't help but worry, so I went to the ER. I spent $100 dollars for them to tell me everything is okay. Apparently, it is normal to have some spotting when you are pregnant and have s_x! This may be the same thing that is happening to you! Good Luck!

My wife is now about 6 weeks pregnant too, and spotted tonight when wiping after peeing. She also has a small clot or discharge. Could this be the placenta discharge?

Abby you need to take it easy, although some women have a period while preg, I did, so just get lots of rest. That goes for you to Chris make sure your wife gets plenty of rest.
