Just Wondering

I got pregnant in October of 04' right after I had started a new job, I immediatly told my boss and things were fine until I started to have problems. I went to the ER about 4 times over the course of 5 weeks and unfortunatly lost the baby in December and had to undergo 2 D&C's, I missed alot of work. I was EXTREAMLY depressed and showing it bad. I tried my best to do my job (pharmacy technician) and around the end of Jan. things were starting to look up, my boss was telling me what a great job I was doing. I mentioned that my husband and I were going to start TTC again in March and the first week in Feb. he fired me. I was shocked. Do you think it was because I told him about us TTC again? His only explination was "things just werent working out", " I had missed too much work!" I was like "of course I have I LOST A BABY!" I just needed to vent...the more I think about it the more I wonder if I should have taken legal action? What do y'all think?

oh...you poor thing...i am so incredibly sorry that you had to experience losing a baby, let alone dealing with an idiot for a boss. about the legal action...that's interesting. i think i would have, especially since your boss was encouraging you and gave you no signals that anything was wrong. mind you, it could just be a man thing (no offense to the men who surf this site...you are all great!)...cuz some men just don't understand things well and maybe he was afraid it was going to happen again. so i don't know. i do think though, that you deserve an explanation. and i really think you should find out....preferably if you could just talk to him. (but hey, having a lawyer talk to him for you would do the trick too.) but enough of the nasty...best of luck with TTC, and i hope to read a post from you in the near future that things are going well and you will soon be hearing the pitter-patter of little feet!! **baby dust!**

I'm very sorry but taking legal action in your case would probably be incredibly difficult. You would have to be able to prove in court that he fired you because you were going to try to become pregnant. And he is saying he fired you because you missed so much work. Unless you could get him to say, and record that he says it, that he fired you because you were going to try to concieve again then I don't think you could get anywhere legally. Proving things can be tough and sadly most women who get fired because they are pregnant or they are trying to become pregnant never get compensation because they just can't prove it.

I'm sorry about your lose but i would think that he let you go because you told hime that you was going to try again and maybe he that the same thing would happend it was wrong for him to do it the way he did but legal actions as said its hard to prove... Gook luck

Hard lesson to learn but in the future try not to let a boss (or a co-worker that you think might tell a boss) personal information until absolutely necessary. Yes, they are people and they should be more sensitive. But in the long run a boss is generally going to cover his or her own b___t if they think a situation might not turn out good for them. Yes it sure as hell does suck but that is what people tend to do. Next go around just keep your boss on a need to know basis. That should help a bit. I had been pregnant in Jan. and my boss knew, then he knew when I miscarried. I got pregnant again now, but this time I am not saying anything until I am about to start showing. That will make it a bit hard for them to fire me out of no where without reprocussions. If I am a good worker until I am about to start showing and they have nothing to complain about then when I tell them it will be a stretch for them to try to make up some reason why they fired me.
