gosh this is SO uncomfortable. I'm just about 35 weeks. I almost cried. anyone else have this? I've been kicked in my ribs in the front, but never the side/back part. is this normal?

Very normal. The baby is a__suming the proper post_tion for birth (facing rear), so the back the most likely place a foot can be. Hang in there.... my wife is just a week ahead of you and has been kicked everywhere. Good luck!

so, the flat of the baby's back is against the front part of my belly . I've always felt the flat of the back on the sides of my belly, but it does feel today like the baby has changed position. the places I'm getting kicked are different.

Then the extra kicks make more sense. The baby could have been in mid-position going to anterior kicking you in the process...... I can feel the baby's bottom on my wife's abdomen now and one of her legs is way back there kicking her ribs. The u/s confirmed what I thought :-)

BBK, so if the baby's back is flat on the curve of my belly, I wouldn't be getting kicked on the top of my belly anymore, right? I'm so confused. It feels so different, but the kicks I'm getting aren't consistent with facing rear I don't think. I'm loopy today though :)

Well, they are never flat, they are more like rolled up like a ball, but when the head is down, the top of your belly would get kicked. When I saw our daughter at the u/s she was not 180 degrees exactly facing back, and her legs were sort of crossed at the calves. Movement looked very restricted. Her one foot was perfectly alligned with the top of my wife's belly, but the other was close to the rib cage. Don't forget to account that the legs are not extended, and possibly crossed. You could be also be feeling the knees.
