I am due in a month and next week I have to get the routine testing for group b strep..my doctor said its a pap test and a rectal culture.. I am really nervous/embarassed about the rectal culture...Can anyone explain the procedure for that and if its really that bad??I just wanna know what to expect..

Your doc is on the ball. All women at 35 to 37 weeks should be checked for GBS. If positive, there are special procedures at delivery. From what I can make out, it's not even a true pap test, which collects from the cervix. It's just a swab inside the v____a and another just inside the rectal sphincter to get a collection of the bacterial colony in both places. Google ... rectal culture pregnancy

so you dont think they would use a speculum or anything?? lol thanks for your help! :)

No speculum. It is just a swab and it's not that bad. Yes, it's a bit embara__sing, but not that bad. It's done very quickly and that's it.

How should you prepare for a test like this?

Melissa - October 21

You lay down on your back and they have you scoot down to the end of the table, just like in a pap. The best way to prepare for this test is to relax and be sure to take a shower!!!

Um, sorry to say... they use a speculum in the v____a and take a swab there, then they remove the speculum and take a swab of your rectum It isn't fun, but they aren't seeing anymore of ya than they will in a few weeks!! lol
