Labor Is Coming

My wife had a little discharge and some back pain and cramping last night. We are 37 weeks, so anywhere between now and 5/8, we could deliver. Our doctor indicated this could be the very early stages of labor. It forced us to pack our bags for the hospital last night. My wife was very scared. I was scared for her. I don't want to have to see her in pain. I guess that this is preparing us for the real thing. Can anyone offer their opinion or experiences to this situation?

Good luck buddy! I wish you both smooth sailing. I don't have ANY experiences to share but I'm scared about the big moment too. I've watched some birthing videos, and even a C-section, but it doesn't help.... probably made things worse. I'm having sympathy pains just thinking about it. Again, good luck!

Has she had any Braxton Hicks contractions? My 1st labor was text book. It started w/Braxton Hicks than the mucous plug, than my broke and 3hrs later there was my little Whitney!

Thanks BBK. You know, I have no stomach for looking at anything past the bellyb___ton in these cases! I figure all you and I can do is be there in any capacity our wives want us in. Who knows, this may be a false alarm but either way it gets you thinking! Good luck to you as well!

Just stay at home as long as possible...if this is your first child you'll be soo anxious...trust me i was and ended up getting induced.....i will let you know just be there for her anything she wants do it don't second guess her...if she says take me to the hopital and you think she should wait...take her any way. i did have those same problems after unprotected s_x i was told that the seimen helps prepare the cervix for delivery so have s_x, s_x, s_x...it may help going into labor...but becareful...she may feel contractions and they may feel hard and timed to be steady but i thought i was and the doc told me to take night time tylenol and if i feel asleep it wasn't the real thing...good luck with labor...oh and take a wash clothe with you it felt so good with cool water rubbed on my forhead during pushing breaks!!! :)~

all i can say is be there with her, hold her hand, coach her and talk her through it. ur gonna be the one that makes the difference. dont show that u are scared or worried, it will only play on her. and never i mean NEVER ask "does it really hurt that bad, honey?" good luck, it will be the most moving experience of ur life.

Oy Vey! My wife doesn't know if what she is having are contractions. She doesn't think she had braxton hicks either. This is all so new to us. And besides, it went away last night and hasn't returned. But we are just taking one day at a time. This could be a false alarm! And if it isn't, it still could take many days right? Am I in denial?!?! Thanks everyone.

From what I understand, she'll KNOW when she's in labor. If she has to stop & think about it, then she's probably not in labor. My mother in law talks about a thing called "back Labor" that you could have for a few weeks before real labor.

JLorenzo - April 21

Back labor? That doesn't side like a good thing! She has been having contractions the last week or so. At least that is what the sonogram tech said. They are painless and usually very short. But we had one on the table last week while getting the sonogram. What a weird experience! To think, you go to the hospital a family of two and come back a family of three!

Oh yeah...make sure you go to the gift shop and get her something for "it's a boy" or "it's a girl" I promise this won't be forgotten...hope all goes well

Is she loosing her mucus plug? Don't rush to the hospital. I had cramping for 2 weeks and was very uncomfortable but I ended up getting induced. I hope everything goes well for you. Just wait for contractions and then make your way in. Otherwise you might get there and then they might just send you home. Is she dialated at all? Good Luck!

JLorenzo - April 21

That may be the nastiest term I have ever heard! A mucous plug! No, I don't think she has lost it. But the brownish discharge she said was followed by cramping and back pain. Will she know when she loses her mucous plug?

jb - April 21

you will know for sure. It is really thick and white in color. Tell her to relax and not to worry, everything is going to be just fine. You guys will do a great job!

I am not happy at all to know that I have a plug in me named after a form of snot!

jb - April 21

you guys are funny. it isn't that bad

JLorenzo - April 21

Thanks everyone! I will keep you posted!

Mindy - April 21

I'm not sure if they have sc___ped your wifes membranes but if they have it may be the cause of the discharge and cramping
