Listeria Try To Help Me Out Please

I know I should talk to my dr. but I have eaten deli meat, which is risky due to Listeria. My question is....can I be tested to see if my baby has been affected? I heard there is no way to tell and your baby may come stillborn. Is that just a scare tactic. Pregnant wmen are 20% more likely to get Listeria, but it's the baby who is harmed and mom may not even get sick. Scary.

I'm sure you aren't the only woman to ever eat deli-meat. Talk to your doctor. I bet your baby will be fine. Has your doctor given you a list of what you can't eat? He/she should do that for you!

You would KNOW if you were infected by listeria. My stepmom was infected by an under cooked hot dog and she had a really high fever...105 while being pregnant. She was 5 months and lost the baby because she went into premature labor. It's not the baby that gets affected, it's you then the baby becomes affected. I ate deli meat throughout my pregnancy and was fine, I've never heard of a pregnant woman being affected by deli meat, your fine, don't worry.

Thanks guys. I was told to stay away from deli meat by the RN at my doc's office and the book they gave me is what told me the baby may be affected even though the momma isn't. I figure that pregnant women are 20% more likely to get listeriea because they are more likely to choose a sandwich opposed to a hamburger and fries. Thanks again guys. I'm a first time preggo and never been so darn paranoid!

Any cold food can grow the listeria bacteria. Health pros claim you should re-heat the meat to kill anything that may have grown.
