last night I woke up with some chest pain, nothing much, I just assumed it was gas or something...this morning I am having major pain with every breath, in my upper chest and back, my throat, neck, and shoulders. It's mild between breaths- but terrible with each breath...what should I do?

It depends on how bad the pain is and the quality of pain. On a scale of O to 10, O being no pain and 10 being the worst imaginable, where is your pain at on this scale? Now, where exactly is the pain? Is it with inhalation only, and is it sharp, dull, stabbing, constant, describe the character of the pain. Does it feel like pressure on your chest like a child sitting on it, or is it like someone is stabbing a knife , use your own words. I am an RN and work in the ICU for neonates and have also worked in the ER, Maybe I can help you a little and tell you if you need to see a doctor right away... I am wondering if you have indigestion or something like a pulmonary embolism, which can be deadly..... Not trying to scare you or anything,,,, and there is also Pleurasy when the lining of the lungs gets stuck to the lungs displacing some of the fluid that coats the lungs.............

One bored nurse. I think you should know not to diagnose anything based on words (layman's terms) online. Get her to SEE you instead.Or another medical professional.
