Maternity And Media

I have become recently obsessed how maternity is depicted through photography in the media. It seems like so many pregnant celebrities have chosen to be photoed for the covers of magazines bearing their pregnant bellies. However, most women experience changes to their bodies during and after pregnancy that don't seem to match what we see in the media. I am just wondering how everyone feels about this. Are these images a goal? A fantasy? A reality? Why do we pay them so much attention? Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I hope you all can help me solve this great mystery!

i think the media has done its job by getting you obsessed. hollywood and models etc and of course the media has always set the average woman up to feel "less than". we pay them attention because it is almost impossible not to as they are everywhere, the tv, magazines, movies etc. these women are usually stick thin when they get pregnant and in super private-trainer induced shape, so when the pregnancy progresses, they are way ahead of the game. the media pays extra attention to their pregnant stars, so id guess those moms do their best to keep up with what the public expects....perfection. and remember, not every preggo star makes a cover, i have seen some who look like the average pregnant woman. my suggestion to you would be to turn off your tv, stay away from magazines and enjoy YOUR pregnancy for exactly what it is. no matter what the media may portray, there is no standard ( other than a hopefully healthy one) that pregnant women should follow.
