Maternity Leave Question

I am 31 weeks pregnant and working full time 8 - 5, Monday - Friday. It is making me very tired, and stressed. I have been considering taking my maternity leave soon. How early is too early to take maternity leave? I leave work at 34 weeks pregnant. Is that too soon?

I used to handle disability filings for an insurance company. I would suggest checking your policy manual to see what your company allows. Some companies allow more time than what the law for each state mandates. Typically for a v____al birth you are allowed 4-6 weeks maternity leave, longer for a c-section. Example for 6 wks leave: If you go out two weeks before the baby is born then you get 4 weeks after the baby is actually born because that would total your 6 weeks maternity leave. If you needed more time & your doctor confers you could always then take FMLA. FMLA guarantees you a job for a certain time period but not necessarily the job you left. If you want to go out early it is your choice but be aware that it does count against your maternity leave. Alot of woman think they can go out and it not count until they actually have the baby but it does not work that way.
