Missed Miscarriage I M A Nervous Wreck

I went to the doctor today for my first visit and ultrasound. From my calculations and the date of my LMP I should have been 8 weeks, 6 days. The u/s showed the fetus around 5 weeks. So the doc said it could be one of two things...either ovulation was miscalculated or the baby stopped growing. I am having a hard time with this because my lmp was 10/1 and I took a home test 11/4 (at almost one week late). Would that test have shown if I had actually gotten pregnant later than I thought??? Someone please help me. I go back for another u/s in a little over a week. I am a nervous wreck!

no heartbeat?

Hi beth...I dont know too much about this, but if you are in fact only 5 weeks, there probably wont be a visible heartbeat yet. I would think that it is quite possible that you didnt get pregnant until later. My lmp was July 23, and I conceived between August 6th and 8th. So you see, the egg was still fertilized SEVERAL days after my period had past. Best of luck to you, and keep us posted!

Doctors very rarely go by your lmp anymore to figure out dates, simply because very few women have the perfect 28 day cycle. It is very possible you didn'y ovulate when calculated. I am 18 weeks pg, when I thought I was 20, confirmed by ultrasound measurements. I was taking Clomid and charting temps, and was pretty sure I knew when ovulation took place, but when I went for my first ultrasound, they put me 2 weeks behind. Don't give up yet!! Missed m/c's are really not that common. Good luck, hope everything works out well. :)

Hi Beth - I went to the Dr today for the first time and I should be 8 weeks and 1 day but the u/s showed me at 5 weeks as weel - a sac but no baby. My lmp was 10/9 and I got my bfp on 11/6. They took my blood today to check levels and I go back Wednesday to take more blood to see if my levels doubled as they should. I am a nervous wreck too - trying to stay positive, but it's hard knowing that it seems hard to believe I am only 5 weeks when I got my bfp just 4 weeks ago.
