Odd Craving

I'm craving something a little odd. I had forgotten that, along with strawberries, I also craved this in my last pregnancy. It's the ice that forms off of the freezer! I couldn't get enough of it last time, and now it's starting again. Last time I subst_tuted with crushed ice, but the flavor's still not the same! My mom bought so many ice crushers for me last year to try to get the perfect ice consistency! Finally, we found one that worked, and I had plain, finly crushed ice all day, everyday during half the pregnancy. If it gets any worse this time around I'll do the same. But it's that flavor of ice forming out of the freezer that is soo good right now! Has anyone else ever had this odd craving?

I ate tons of ice during my pregnancy...I am not sure what caused it, but I wanted it constantly. I remember once going to a resturant and ordering a sprite and a gla__s of ice...

Craving ice is a symptom of anemia, so mention it to your doctor.

It's called PICA. Google it.

It's called Pica...it is causes by a nutritional deficiency....Look into it.

I am a nursing student. This is called Pica, it actually happens fairly common. Some women crave, cardboard and sometimes gravel from the driveway, a big one is chalk. It's like your body knows that you have a calcium deficiency and so it is trying to make up for it. I would see your doctor and maybe start taking more vitamins.

I know this one lady who couldn't stop eating snow while she was pregnant. She picked snow from her front yard, back yard, and wherever she went if she could find good looking enough snow on the street, she just scooped it up and happily put it in her mouth!

Hey Heavenly! You said you pictured a pregnant woman with her head stuck in the freezer? That made me laugh, because you're exactly right. I don't crave it as much as I did with my baby last year, but I still crave that frost that grows off everything in the freezer. When I open that freezer, and notice the ice has grown a good bit on everything, I just stick my head in there and lick it all off! I make sure it's clean of course though!

That's cute M.A. :o) Well I guess you never have to worry about defrosting.

I LOVE the smell of the (I guess freon) that b__ws out of the freezer, it smells so good to me! Sometimes I will just stand in front of the frige with the freezer open and my head in it smelling for like 5 minutes ( or until I get tired of standing there ) ah it smells so good. Another thing I love is the smell that b__ws out from a window unit ( those A/C units that are in windows ) my friend has one in her house and anytime I am at her house I have to get in front of it and just smell! It is great. I craved the same thing during my first pregnancy! My blood is normal so I don't think I am anemic, just LOVE the smell of freon! Weird right!?

That is very weird. Ice, fine, but the ice that forms on the freezer?

While I think the freezer ice craving is strange, I eat a ton of those Marino's ices. They come in little yellow containers with green writing. I like to eat it with the traditional little wooden spoon. Ice pops are not the same. I like the texture of the sc___ped ice, so there could be something to your freezer ice craving afterall!

If you have a SONIC around, they sell bags of small, soft ice. It's GREAT! My husband also got onto me for eating the ice out of the freezer, but it's soooo good. LOL He thought I was crazy for craving it. I told him that the smell of wet dirt was the worst craving, but the ice was the closest thing to it. I had to print out an article on it. Here is the definition.... Main Entry: pa·go·pha·gia Pronunciation: "pA-g&-'fA-j(E-)& Function: noun : the compulsive eating of ice that is a common symptom of a lack of iron. PICA is actually for all non-food items, but pagophagia is for craving ICE due to Iron deficiency.
