You can get pregnant if there is sperm in your tubes starting at ovulation and till about 24 hours after. This can cover a # of days before ovulation till the day after (and sometimes more if you ovulated again). Sperm can live quite a few days in a moist environment, but normally the women's CM is hostile to it. During the time that a women's CM is in it's fertile stage, the sperm will live long enough to travel up to the tubes, and will stay there for a few days. Depending on your CM, you could have intercourse a few days before Ov, and still get preggo. Also, some women ovulate again a day or so after the first one, so there is another window there too. It's a good idea to keep an eye on your CM and your temps (and cervical position if you know how to) if you are TTC or if you are trying to prevent (with or without other protection).
