This pregnancy was a surprise. I quick smoking 2 years ago and subsequently gained a lot of weight. I was in the process of starting a plan to get the weight off, but now that I am pregnant, I cant lose weight. Any advice or experience with this? Thanks, new to this

Actually you CAN lose weight when you are pregnant- but you don't want to do it with traditional diets. Just make sure you are eating well-balanced meals, avoid fatty foods, fried foods, a lot of sugar, sodas, etc. and you should be fine. Make meals as well-balanced as you can and get exercise every day- even if it is walking.......just make sure to keep your heart rate under 140. Best of luck to you.

I am overweight and this pregnancy was also a shock. I had started losing weight last year and have lost over 50 lbs with diet and fun. I can't really say exercise because I took up raquetball and started playing and coaching softball. Now that I am pregnant I have been really watching and in 4 months I have gained 3 lbs. My advise is to keep active and eat several times a day. Also if the activity bothers you as it is starting to bother me- sign up for water aerobics they are low impact and great exercise.

I can truly relate to the weight gain after quitting smoking. I quit smoking in 2001 after 10 years of the nasty habit. The trade off was so worth it. You should maintain a healthy diet while your pregnant and when you're trying to loose a few pounds, so look at this pregnancy as a way to prepare you for the change in lifestyle. You can do moderate exercise when you're pregnant, which can help keep off all those extra pregnancy pounds that don't relate to the baby.
