i heard that you get your period every other month with an iud... they will be heavier and more painful periods, but you are probably ok - 99.9% if your iud is inserted correctly.

I jsut heard that you were supposed to have heavier and more painful periods and then after 3-6 months they could disappear altogether.. do you know anything about side efffects and nausea . no - i dont know any more than i shared... my friend was talking about hers at a Christmas party Friday and that is the 1st i have heard of them all together. I did remember her saying that eventually you skip periods, so maybe it isn't normal to skip periods right away. if the Mirena is the 5 year than it is "laced" with horomones which might give you nausea and other symptoms, but if it is the 10 year than it is made from copper with no horomones. I guess I knew more than i thought as i started typing :)

Tina, I work for an OB&GYN dr. I have only heard of one situation like yours. The patient had the IUD for about a year. Take a home pg test, trust me they are no different then the ones the dr's use, and if it comes up negative contact your dr so they can do blood work to be sure.

As a matter of fact i have the mirena iud myself, which i love. about 3mo after i had it my period was not the same. it had slowed way down to the point where it was like i didnt have it.
