I was wondering when buying prenatal vitamins should the bottle specify prenatal or can you buy a multi vitamin instead that specifies folic acid and iron and all that stuff you need????????? Please answer asap!!!!!

You don't need to take extra folic acid if you are taking a prenatal because it has exactly enough in it, however, if you aren't taking a prenatal vitamin BEFORE you get pregnant, then you need to take folic acid supplements once a day until such time that you get pregnant and switch to a full prenatal vitamin. To answer your first question: I had a male friend in University who was actually given a prenatal vitamin instead of a multi-vitamin because it was more complete. Pregnant women have different needs and just like the Women-only, Children-only and Senior's only vitamins out there, they are designed especially for you. Hope this helps. It's almost most important to take folic acid in your first trimester than in the rest of your pregnancy but, you still need your prenatal vitamin for the rest of the nutrients and vitamins.
