Hi, i was wondering what amount of time would be considered prolonged standing? So far my pregnancy is going well, but i have read that standing for long periods of time is not recommended. I am going to volunteer to serve at a lunch program and i may be standing for 2-3 hours . Do you think this will be a problem. Currently i'm only 6 weeks pg. thanks

well im in highschool, and we had a bomb threat from a stupid student (it was a joke) when i was about 22 weeks pregnant. we were standing in the jr high school gym down the street for about 5 hours, and i pa__sed out after about 3 hours. my doctor said it was probaby because i hasdnt eaten at all that day, and if i was to be standing for a while to have a snack every now and then to keep my hydrated and energized. so i think it should be fine, make sure you have a snack though : )

I worked in a restaurant all the way through high school and college and several girls were pregnant during that time and were very capable of working an entire shift, if not a double. So I'm sure that if they can work for 5-10 hours a day that you and your baby will be just fine for those couple of hours :)

You'll have no problem standing for that length of time if you are in your first trimester. The standing issue comes into play when your belly is sticking out and it causes you to compensate with your back. Also, some women develop pinched nerves in 2nd trimester which make it difficult to stand. If you are only 6 weeks, your baby is the size of a raisin and your body is pretty much in its "normal" state, you won't have any problems until you are at least showing, and some people never have any problems standing. Your body will definitely tell you if you have been standing too long!
