Question About Edema During Pregnancy

Hello--I'm 35 w, 6 d pregnant (due 11/16), and I've never had a high blood pressure reading in my life (this is my second baby--boy #2). However, last night I noticed that my legs were really swollen (to the point it looks like I'm starting to get stretch marks on them!), and today I cannot even cross my legs . . . so I called the dr's office and I have to go in tomorrow to be checked for high blood pressure and protein in my urine. I'm really just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and/or if it was PIH or if it was nothing at all . . . I just want my baby to be OK. It seems so odd that I could possibly have high blood pressure, since I never have (my usual readings are between 110/70 and 130/90) . . . and to have it come on so suddenly? I was just at the dr's office last Tuesday, 10/11. Any experiences would be appreciated. Also, any symptoms from women who had this problem . . . like I've been getting phantom pains in my calves (like shooting pains) but it's only been for today--is this a symptom of Edema during pregnancy? I don't know. Anyway, your help/advise is appreciated, as always. Thank you!

It was so smart of you to call the doctors. Esp. if this is the beginning onset of pre-clampsia...it is good to have it under control before labor. Unfortunately with pre-clampsia, it can sometimes go unnoticed until all of a sudden it shows up. But this might not be what you have...it just might be water retention. For now, make you sure your are drinking since, oddly enough, the best cure for water retention is to drink water.
