Question On Folic Acid

I found out that I am pregnant at 4 1/2 weeks and started taking my prenatal that day. However, I did not take anything previously, and was dieting, so I did not consume carbs which contain folic acid. Everything I am reading is saying that I am too late and now will have a baby with a neuro tube defect. I am scared to death. Any advice, or feedback??

Why on earth would people be telling you its too late?!?! Tell the to shut up. You started taking you prenatals at 4 1/2 weeks and they contain folic acid! You should be fine. It is very important to get folic acid but at 4 1/2 weeks the baby is barely more than a bundle of cells! I drank before I found out I was pregnant and no one has told me "its too late now your baby will have fetal alcohol syndrome" actually my doctor told me not to worry too much about it b/c theres nothing I can do now. I wouldnt worry, just ignore people if they say that to you again.

Hi, Wendy. Ideally women should have folic acid in their bodies at the time of conception to prevent neural tube defects. Most people are not taking vitamins when they get pregnant and almost all babies are fine. I'm not sure about the diet part. Talk to your doctor about your worries. I'd bet Baby is just fine!
