Ritalin And Effexor During Pregnancy

I just found out I am pregnant with my third child. I am about 4 and a half to 5 weeks based on the approximate date of my lmp. I am on ritalin for adult add as well as effexor for depression. I called the dr that prescribes my ritalin which is at the Community Mental Health place because of my lack of insurance. They told me to stop taking it, but were very short with me and didn't discuss my concerns. With my job, I don't think I can function at work without it. I did some research and it said docs may keep women on it if the benefits out weigh the risk. Nothing I saw on the risks seemed to have any real info on the risks. Also, if I stop my effexor my depression is out of control I don't know what to do.

I also have add. I take adderal though. My doc told me to get off of it. i looked up somestuff and it can cause birthdefects and low birth weight and preterm. I don't know if it is the same for riddlin but I would think so. I know what ya mean about not being able to function!!! I am 6 wks pg and have known since 3 wks pg and stopped then...it is actually better than I thought it would be. I don't know about the antideppressant except to say that if you are suppose to stop you will probably need to be weined off for saftey. Go to a pegnancy center so they can get you set up with a obgyn to meet you financial needs and that way you can make the right choice's with a dr. help. Are in a state that has medical coverage for pregnanat women like medicade?

sorry i forgot about this post, lol. yes but i may not qualify for medicaid because my income may be too high. I applied and am still waiting to hear something back on my application. I cut down the dose i have been taking so i am not taking much.Usually only 2 pills a day at most 3. Everything i have found on taking ritalin while pregnant doesnt sound like the risks for taking an average dose were much more than low birth weight. i know in rats who took huge doses it caused heart problems, but nothing at the regular dose. I am just not able to fnction without it

I take Effexor as well, however I'm still ttc. I think I will try to wean off it as soon as possible after becoming pregnant. My dr. said the best thing to to do is gradually lower the dose and to be completely off it by the 3rd trimester, because that is when it can affect the baby the most, especially in higer doses.
