Is it possible for your sciatic nerve to hurt during pregancy and what would be the reason?

anon - January 29

Yes, because your enlarging uterus or the growing baby could put pressure on the sciatic nerve.

Oh yea! I had no problems with sciatic nerve pain during my first pregnancy, but heaven knows I'll be walking during this pregnancy and suddenly have to stop from the shooting pain down my leg or it's total numbness. I HATE my sciatic nerve right about now!

Yes, mine started in my 5th month of pregnancy and i'm now in my 7th and it's still painfully there. Hopeful news is; it should go away about 4-6 weeks after I deliver.

If any of you are not scared of needles, acupuncture is great for sciatic nerve pain and it doesn't hurt. The needles are so thin you barely feel them

if the baby is posioned on it.

I am 12 weeks- my first child will be one next week. My sciatic is killing me this time around! Anyone goes to a chiropractor for this???

Unfortunantly yes when the pressure is so significant it can and will make you miserable I also had no knowlage of this with my first preg. but this one "o" lordie. a few quick remedys that may help take a little pressure off. Warm cloth or microwaveable haeting pad,ma__sage, pain relifing craem on lower back and legs, elevation of your legs, limited standing lifting walking, proper body mechanics while mopping, washing ect.... but sorry to say it will still hurt like hell :) until your baby repositions it's self or you deliver.

I realize how old this post is but I have a question about this: A few months ago I was having bad sciatic pain in my right b___t. It went away for a while but now it's back, but the pain goes down my right inner thigh. I know you only have one sciatic nerve, so is it possible for it to move?? Could it be the same nerve? Still very painful and hard to walk.

Does anyone know how early your sciatic nerve can start hurting?

mandi - August 23

yes, my right side of my b___t and hip and down through the top part of leg hurts really bad sometimes.

oh is it ever girl!!!! I pinched my sciatic when my back went out with number one, big reminder to go to the chiropracter reg when pregnant , which is why my ins puts a no copay during preg on chiro care, and it almost paralyzed me with pain, also with number two i herniated adisc which is pressing my sciatic nerve root

TO ALL FROM APRILM - August 23

YES CHIROPRACTIC CARE IS RECOMENDED BY MOST GOOD OBS AND YES SCIATIC PAIN DOES SWITCH WHERE IT SHOWS UP BECAUSE ONE NERVE BUNDLE CONTROLS FROM THE NERVE THRUE THE HIP DOWN TO YOUR TOES , AND THERE IS ONE ON EACH SIDE, MY CHIRO IS GREAT AT EXPLAINING ALL THIS!!! BEST OF LUCK TO ALL BUT DEFINITELY VISIT A CHIRO IF YOU CAN WEEKLY OR BIWEEKLY ESPECIALLY AS YOU GET BIGGER
