Smoke Smell Out

Does anybody know what to do to get the smoke smell out of clothes? My sister in law gave me tons of baby clothes, but they smell like smoke- my husband or I don't smoke and can't stand the smell. I have washed them 3 times and also tried with vinegar, but I can still smell in in them. Any ideas?

If you can't get it out after 3 washings, I would give up and donate the clothes to charity, or give them back. That's ridiculous that the smell is still so strong after all you've done to get rid of it.

I'd hate to think what her baby was breathing in if you can't get the smell out after 3 washes! I'd get rid of them.

I guess I would try bleach or Oxyclean first. Do you have a screened in porch or clothes line you can try to air them out on.... Damn, they must be some big smokers!

I used to smoke. My parents and my sister still smoke, so everything smells like smoke when we get home from their houses. But one washing gets the smell out of our clothes. Maybe you just THINK you still smell the smoke?

Try soaking them in baking soda. That stuff gets the stink out amazingly. If that doesn't work then ask some else (non-smoker) to smell them to see if the smell is still there. That just too gross though. How can people smoke like that around children? I hate it when I'm driving and I see people in other cars smoking with children on board and all the windows up!! To me, that's child abuse.
