Sonogram Question

My wife and I were just called by our doctor. Apparently we need to have another sonogram because according to them "They didn't get good enough shots of the nasal bone and heart". Do we have anything to be concerned about, are they most likely telling the truth and there is nothing to fear?

Phil, With my first daughter, they did a sono when i was around 13-14 weeks. I had asked for an sono a few monthes later, they said no but then looked in my chart and it said they didnt get a good pic of the heart so i had to go back in. so through my rambling, its not uncommon for them to want additional pics especially if they did a early sono to begin with.

I don't really know the answer to this one, but I do want to say that you and your wife should really get aggressive with the doctor and demand that they explain IN DETAIL any concerns they have and every reason for the additional u/s. Good luck!

I believe that the sono was done at 22 weeks, so it wasn't that early i don't think. I do think the little guy was being difficult though, because the lady giving the sonogram was complaining about his lack of a__sistance in getting in the right positions. I already have one son from a former relationship, and we had a lot of issues during her pregnancy, so of course my first thoughts are going to be bad. Thanks for aleviating my concerns, even if only a little :)

~m~, According to them, the one and only reason is because they didn't get good enough shots the first go around. They a__sured us we have nothing to worry about, but that's easier said than done.

I can understand it may be hard not to worry, but it sounds like your little stinker already has a mind of his own! LOL Hopefully he will have his posing face on for the next one and you can get some great shots!

missing nasal bone and heart problems are markers for down syndrome.

I had a very active baby, so they sent me for an extra ultrasound at the hospital (better equipment) because they could not see the heart well enough either. Plus, she would not show between her legs either! I ended up with 5 ultrasounds, and everything was fine. The problem was because she moved so much they could not get her in the right position either. I don't know anything about the nasal bone, though.
