Starting Solids Too Soon

We just had our three month check up today and my doctor (he's a GP not a ped.) told me to start my daughter on baby food!! Isn't this too soon? Right after our appointment I read something from the Canadian Pediatric Association that said they recommend br___tfeeding exclusively for six months! What's the deal? My mother said my doctor is old-school and not to do it. Any ideas? I have posted in another forum but there is very little traffic in the other ones so I thought I would try here too. Thanks. :)

I started both my kids on solids at around 4 months, usually just a lil rice cereal in the morning. Here in australia they recommend starting solids from 4-6 months

That was what the recommendation was here too. They've changed it to six months and up. He told me to give her rice cereal about a month ago. I tried it but she didn't seem to like it and I didn't notice any difference in her sleeping patterns so I stopped after a week or so.

If shes not liking it i would try her again in a week or 2, she'll let you know when shes ready

I started at 4 months and I thought that was early, but my daughter never seemed satisfied with my milk or formula - no matter how much - and the cereal helped alot...

i started my first with cereal at 2 months, will actually my mom did. She has done that with all her grandchildren. The doctor said it was OK . the moment baby started having his cereal he slept through the whole night. I plan on doing this with baby #2.
