Thinking Of Going Off The Pill

I'm thinking of going off the pill, is there a certain amount of time I need to wait before trying?

When I went off the pill after 8 years, my doc advised wait for one full cycle (after your first natural period), we started trying right after that & got pregnant right away!

No. You can try immediately, but it may take a few months for your body to completely readjust (which may delay conceiving). I got pregnant the same month I went off the pill and delivered a healthy baby girl. Good luck! :o)

Any suggestions for me? This will be our first and I just want to make sure I do everything right. Like, while we're trying am I allowing to have an occasional drink?

You may get pregnant right away or it may take a few months depending on your body and how fast its readjusting. A lot of the women I know on the pill got preggo with in the 3-4 months after coming off the pill. If it takes some time don't get upset over it, it will happen when your body is ready. Also, You don't have to give up the things you like to do while you are ttc - you can still have that occasional drink; if you are taking any medication just check with your Dr. Just don't over do it on things like smoking, drinking ect. Good luck with it and have fun!

my doctor advised me to begin prenatal vitamins right away just to prepare your body

I went off the pill in September and conceived in March. So sometimes it takes a while to get out of your system. It's better for it to get out, but healthy babies conveived the month after are born every day! I'd for sure take a prenatal vitamin right away and just relax and let nature take its course! GL!!

Prenatal vitamins, do you mean folic acid? Thank you all for your help

I went off the pill on 12/23 after being on it for nearly 5 years and got my period on 12/26. My conception date was 1/9 - only two weeks after getting off the pill. I too thought it would take a while - apparently my fiance has super sperm! My doctor laughed when i told him we thought we had some time - he said most people think that but in actuality it can be as little as a few days if it all falls into place. You will have your period when you stop the pill - doc says it's fine to start after then - just so that way you have a marker to base due date on. Good luck!!

C~ You definitely want to take a Prenatal vitamin, which will contain Folic Acid, as well as many other vitamins needed for a healthy pregnancy. :o)

This will vary widely from woman to woman. I've been off the pill since June of 2004 and almost 10 months later, I'm still not pregnant... so I would say just be patient and don't obsess over each day, temp., etc. Have sax when the mood strikes you and just enjoy this part of the process. Hope all goes well for you!

Lisa is totally right. It is totally normal for it to take a year or more for a young healthy couple to conceive. Enjoy the moments you have with your hubby, don't stress - your little bundle will come fast enough!!!

make sure the prenatal vitamins you buy have a good amount of Iron in them and 1mg of folic acid - 1 mg is the recomended daily dosage.
