You both seem to know a lot about pregnancy so answer my question, how accurate are ultrasound scans at determining the s_x of a baby.

Thanks for saying that. I don't know as much as I'd like to, but I do like to help when I can. The scans aren't fool proof, however, they are pretty accurate most of the time. That being said, it is more likely to be wrong about a girl than a boy. Because sometimes a doc can think it's a girl simply because the "parts" are hidden or the baby is at the wrong angle. And sometimes it ends up being a boy anyway when they thought girl (happened to my neighbor). But for the most part, when they see "parts", it is usually a boy. I don't think it's very often that an expected boy turns out to be a girl.... although nothing about it is fool proof. I've heard that the 3-D ultrasounds are way more accurate at it than 2-D. When I had my kids, I had no access to 3-D. But both times, with the 2-D, they said boy, and got it right. So the bottom line, in my opinion is, I would probably a__sume the scanner is right in saying boy or girl. However, I wouldn't paint the nursery walls or take any tags off of the pink or blue clothing!! :o) Good luck!

I think accuracy is determined by your doctor's competency and experience, not the quality of the equipment. I had a 3-D and they could not tell me the gender yet my OB (20 years exp.) told me the gender via the c___ppiest and oldest machine I have ever seen. Accuracy depends on who is reading the scan, the position of the baby, as well as the age of the fetus and not so much the quality of the equipment. If you are looking for accuracy percentages based on equipment type and fetal age, I have no clue. Good luck:)

Good point, E!! It does take a competent person to be able to give an accurate read.
