oh wow a question I can actually answer!! I take tramadol for my hip displacement..(i broke my hips like 3 yearsago and they weren't fixed correctly so now they r displaced) I asked 3 drs at my docs office ad they looked it up it is what is considered cla__s 'c' which means there have been no studies to show that it causes birth defects... morphine and medicines in its cla__s are called cla__s 'a' I believe which do cause defects...if u still feel uncomfortable using this medication ask for something else..th main ingrediant or tramadol (or ultracet as it is commonly called) is hydrochloride mixed with acetametiphine hydrocloride is found in several medications such as some allergy medicines sleep aides and restless leg syndrome medicines. please use caution however if u do decide to continue its use for it is very addictive... and over use can cause damage to ur kidneys as well as severe breathing problems.. I hope this helps.... and I am sorry to hear about how bad ur sciatica is.... gl ~tish~
