Ultrasound Accuracy-pg77

How accurate is the estimate of the babies weight in a 21 almost 22 week ultrasound? My doctor says my baby is 1 pound 3 oz. My boyfriend thinks it might not be his since that is usually larger than the websites and books say. I know it is his because I wasn't with anyone else. Is there a degree of error?

Your bf is grasping at straws. Those books/websites give an avarage of what a baby may weigh at any given time during gestation. My ultrasounds show that my baby is about 2 weeks bigger than its gestational age. My doctor confirmed long ago--about 20 weeks-- that I was going to have a big baby. You may just be having a big baby as well. You should be aware that your doctor is also giving an approximation of weight based on formulas using biometric variables. The biometric variables are just the measurements the doctor takes during your ultrasound.

tell your boyfriend that he cannot raise this child out of books for the rest of his/her life...you can look at three different books and get three different answers. i am working on my 4th child and my last child i was told that she was going to be about 5 lbs at birth because i could not keep food down and my first ultrasound showed that she was going to be small...BULL my baby girl was 8 lbs 2.2 oz anything but tiny. At least she was not 11 lbs like a friend of mine. if he is going off of books now i pray for you in the future. every baby grows different inutero dont worry about it he needs to relax and good luck

Hey Kellie, I knew there were some stories out there like this. Thanks for adding it!
