What About Feta

I read that you're not suppose to eat feta when you're pregnant. I love feta and love to cook Mediterranean food, so I use feta a lot, what's so bad about it while pregnant? Thanks

The bacteria that live in soft cheeses like Feta can harm the baby you're carrying. The babies immune system is not developed enough to fight it like an adult body is.

Gee! That's a bummer! I'm waiting to see if I'm pregnant, and I have been eating feta like crazy this week! Thanks for your advice!

You can eat fetas and all soft cheeses which are pasteurized. Almost all American brands are pasteurized and it will say so on the label. There is a safe, precrumbled brand (Saladena) which I love. Lysteria is not a risk with pasteurized products. Straight from my doctor's mouth:)

I stand corrected. The list of foods I was to avoid that my doctor gave me lists Feta cheese, perhaps he was referring to imported brands.

Tiffani, my lists warns quite generally about feta and soft cheeses also but I freaked out due to all of the feta I had eaten and my doctor a__sured me that pasteurized products are not a risk. It would be nice if they would update the "info sheet". Many women are stressed about this type of thing.
