My firs sonar was on 4/5 weeks and the fetus was visible, but only the size of a rice grain. My gynea wanted to see me again in 2 weeks because I've miscarried before, and yesterday my sonar indicated I was 7 weeks and the fetus was the size of a grape, with arms and legs beginning to grow and a loud heartbeat of 14 b/second. Go back in 2 weeks!

My first dr appt was at 9 weeks. The doctor told me they usually don't pick up a heart beat until about 12 weeks. They got mine on my next appt at 13 weeks. I am now at 21 weeks. Here is a link by an MD discussing the heartbeat. http://www.drspock.com/article/0,1510,9851,00.html
