When To Pack Hospital Bag

Hey everyone! Just wondering when you guys packed or are going to pack your hospital bags? I will be 29 weeks on Thursday, is that too early?

Hey Christina. Personally I think it's a little early to pack, but some women go into labor early. I am at 39 weeks and I'm packing mine today. I'm also a big procrastinator though, but I think it's a good time to pack. Especially if you're close to labor, and feeling the urge to "nest". I'm deep cleaning a lot of stuff in my apartment today so I don't know...maybe I'm getting ready to go into labor. I feel cramping so we'll see what all this cleaning is about. =) Just keep in mind, you need to pack pj's, clothes, toothbrush, toiletries and stuff like that for yourself so packing too early would result in not having the stuff to use for the next month or so. Anyway, my opinion is around 36 weeks to start packing.

Thanks Maddie! I thought it was too early, but I am new at this so thought I would ask! Wow, you are sooo close, lucky you! Are you nervous? Is this your first?

I always pack mine around 34 weeks. Since the babies arrival is so unpredictable it's always better to be on the early side as far ar preparation is concerned. What I did was sit down and make a list of every single thing I wanted to take with me to the hospital. That way, if I went into labor early, my husband could help get my bag together by reading off the list, and nothing was forgotten in the choas. Go ahead and pack the things now that you don't need to use at home, like an outfit for the baby to come home in, camera's, film, snacks, baby fingernail clippers, and whatever else you can think of. :o)

Thanks Tiffani~edd, I never realized how much stuff you were supposed to pack until I read a few lists I got offline. Do you suggest bringing makeup, hair dryer, curling iron...stuff like that? Right now I feel like I would want to try and look my best after the baby is born, but do you really feel like it? Do I need to bring my own blankets and sleepers for the baby or just a going home outfit? My hospital allows the baby to stay with me the whole time so I have no idea what to bring for him!!

I'm only 27 weeks and I've packed everything except my camera. I couldn't wait! :)

Christina~ I bring everything it takes to get me ready on an average day. Make up, hair dryer, lotion, shaving cream, deoderant, etc.... I am preparing for my 3rd C section, and from experience I can honestly say I feel so much better after i''ve had a shower and gotten ready for the day, even if i'm only going to be laying in bed all day. I'm a freak though, I even straghten up my hospital room every day. My nurses laugh at me & my family rolls their eyes, i'm a clean freak and a perfectionist. The only thing you need to bring for the baby is a going home outfit, some fingernail clippers (the hospital is unable to provide them or even use them for fear of infection), and of course a carseat. I guess a blanket would be good too just in case it's a cool day. The hospital provides everything else. You're making me anxious, and i'm only 18 weeks. :o)

Christina, yes this is my first. How about you? I'm not even thinking how far along I am. I guess I'm blocking it out (that's the procrastinator in me). But seriously, it makes it better for my nerves because while i'm not focussing on the due date (6-15) the days are flying by. =) And YES...I'm VERY nervous...I'm 22 and my husband is 23 so we need to grow up a lot, but we're excited! And ready as we'll ever be.

Christina - June 6

Tiffani, sorry to make you anxious! :) I am also VERY anxious! Thanks for the advice! I am a neat freak also, and I am sure I will want to shower and get ready like I would any other day! Do you know what you are having yet? I am having a boy. I am due August 26, but at my 18 week ultrasound they said he was measuring a little big and according to the ultrasound would be due August 17th, however my doctor said we would keep the due date at august 26 since I was sure of my last period. Guess I get a little confused about the whole thing! At my visits my fundal height has pretty much been above my pregnancy week. Example, at my last visit I was 26.2 weeks and my fundal height was 27. Who knows!

Christina - June 6

Maddie, I don't know how the heck you are not thinking about how far along you are! I constantly think about it and I am only 28 weeks!! This is my first and we are so excited! I am 24 and my husband is 28. Do you know if you are having a boy or girl?

tiffani~edd~ 11/07/05 - June 6

Christina~ No, we don't know what we're having yet. I found out with my other 2 ( I have a girl and a boy) so I though we'd wait for the surprise, but now i'm starting to doubt my patience. Knowing what the s_x is would allow me to prepare, which would really help pa__s the time. Then again, this is our last planned pregnancy, so it would be our last chance at the "big suprise" ending. Then again, isn't it a surprise no matter when you find out??? My daughter also measured big, but my doctor wouldn't change my due date either. I ended up being induced when I was nearly a week late. :o)

Christina - June 6

I don't think I could have waited to find out! Actually I know I couldn't have waited! :) You are right it is a surprise either way!!

Hey Christina, I'm having a boy. His name is Caden Lyon...but we don't have a middle name yet! Isn't that crazy? I want 'Thomas', after my dad...my husband want 'Ray' after his and we just can't come to an agreement. We'll just wait to see what he looks like at the hospital! =)

Christina - June 6

We almost went with the name Caden too!! But, we decided on Dylan Benjamin. The middle name was the hardest!!! I am still not 100% sure about it so it might change.

I am 31 weeks and just forming my list this week. I plan to pack my bag mid July and just leave it in the car, just incase! Our hospital is 40 min from our home and about 30 min from my work (on the way) so I won't have time to go home if I am at work. My husband works 40 min in the OTHER direction. So being the planner that I am, I'll be carrying my stuff around from about 36 weeks. Good luck!
