i am approximatly 5 month along and have been having problems with my legs, they are swollen, but when pressure is applied to them (like if i push with my finger) it dents and stays dented for like 20 minutes, also after i am at work for a few hours my left leg goes numb and i get sharp pains up by my hip. is this normal at all?

Swelling is normal in pregnancy. But yours sounds a little extreme, you should discuss it with your doctor.

It sounds like you are retaining a lot of fluid. Some fluid is normal but I would be safe and check with your doctor..It sounds like your sciatic(sp?) nerve is causing the problem with your leg. Maybe it all ties in together. How is your blood pressure? Good luck let us know how you make out

I had pre-eclampsia, and they always checked at my office visits if they could press a dent into my ankle. Have you gained a lot of weight to go with the swelling (no, that's not a judgement, it can be a sign of pre-eclampsia). If your next doctor's visit is more than a few days away, I would call the doctor and tell them about the swelling you're experiencing. One thing you can do to help yourself is to lie down on your left side as much as possible, to help relieve swelling. Another thing that's supposed to help is walking, because the flexing of your calf muscles circulates the blood back to your heart. Also, drink more water. Strange as it sounds, it helps lessen water retention.
