I want to know how affective is the a steroid shot when used to help the baby's lungs develop? And what is the percentage of the steroid shot failure rate?

to be honest i cant answer your question but only tell you of my experience. My first son was born 11 weeks early and at this stage his lungs weren't fully developed. He ended up having a steroid injection to try and develop them quicker. He is now 9 years old, and we have to watch him everytime he goes out without a coat on. Last year he went out in the cold weather and ended up catching pneumonia last february because he took off his coat and jumper for goal posts (as all lads do)

I heard there pretty effective I went into early labour 29-30 weeks with my daughter and I had 2 shots 24 hours apart. Luckily they were able to stop labor and I had her at around 38 weeks. I was just told there greatly effective and increase the babies chance of survival if born prematurly

I had my daughter at 32 weeks. I first went into labor at 23 weeks. I was given 2 steroid shots 12 hours apart... They stopped my labor and then when I was 27 weeks pregnant I went into labor again. I had 2 more steroid shots... then I went into labor and delivered at 32 weeks... her lungs were not totally developed, but she ended up only staying in the NICU for 18 days. She was tiny, but she came home several weeks before she was due! As far as a failure rate... there isn't really a failure rate... it all depends on how many steriod shots the mother can get before the baby arrives. They can give them every 24 hours. They will give 2 shots over 24 hours, and then will also try stopping the labor... the longer the baby stays inside w/ the mother getting the shots, the better chance baby has....
